Movie Review by Matthew Schuchman- Three out of Five ‘Staches.

Remembering what I said in my review of “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”; I thought before I saw the film that maybe Edgar Wright’s work would suffer a bit without his “Spaced,” “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” cohorts Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.  As it turned out, I was extremely wrong. “Paul” on the other hand, sees Pegg and Frost writing the script with “Superbad” director Greg Motolla at the helm; no Edgar Wright. While “Paul” succeeds as an enjoyable film with a good handful of laughs (the best stuff all comes in the last 15 minutes of the movie), I would have to say, it would have been interesting to see how much better it might have been in Wright’s hands. Movie Review by Matthew Schuchman- Four and a half out of Five ‘Staches. (No real photos from the film are available yet as it still listed as being in post production, so enjoy this Adrien Brody headshot, instead).

Tony Kaye, the director of “Detachment” is best known for making “American History X.”  He has done a handful of films since, but nothing seemed to garner much attention.  While “Detachment” is still in post production, a lot of the work that has to be done deals more with sound than anything else. They could put the film in theaters the way it is now and have no worries as “Detachment” is nothing less than incredible. (more…)
